How to apply for the 2024 Japanese Government (Monbukagskusho) Scholarship Program

Procedure for Submitting Documents for Application:

  1. Before submitting your documents, make a copy for yourself, as submitted papers will not be returned.
  2. Please indicate your agreement to the Agreement on Document Submission rule with your application for it to be considered during the document screening.
  3. Only original documents or certified true copies of the Academic Transcript of Records and Certificates of Graduation from the school/university may be submitted. Notarized documents are also acceptable. Ensure that all information on certified copies is legible. If the document is not in English or Japanese, provide a translation from the school/university.
  4. A medical check-up can be done in any hospital or health institution if the form conforms to the guidelines. Ask the doctor to fill in all the required data and sign the state with their wet signature. The digital or scanned copy must be notarized or certified if the hospital or health institution cannot provide a physically signed form.
  5. Reputable English proficiency tests such as TOEIC, TOEFL, and IELTS certificates are acceptable. Applicants may also submit a certificate indicating “English is the medium of instruction” issued by the school or university most recently attended.
  6. Certificates and scores from Japanese proficiency exams such as the JLPT, JFT-Basic, Japanese NAT-TEST, and similar exams are acceptable. Certificates of completion of Japanese language courses will not be accepted.
  7. Wet signature recommendation letters are preferred. If the recommender cannot physically sign the letter, the applicant may submit a notarized copy with an e-signature. Physically signed letters must be sealed in letter envelopes.
  8. Follow the number of copies for each document stated in the guidelines. If the list requires one original and one copy, and the applicant cannot provide the original, submit two copies (1 certified true copy and one photocopy) of the document. Only complete applications will be considered for document screening.
  9. Number the documents in the upper right corner according to their number on the list, and remove all staple wires. Place all documents in a single envelope or folder according to the list. Use paper clips or binder clips to divide records per set. Separate originals and copies and arrange them by number for more straightforward checking.
  10. Hand-deliver or mail your application package to the address provided before the indicated deadline date. Only on-time applications will be accepted.
  11. Due to the many applications received, the embassy cannot confirm the receipt of documents from each applicant. Contact your courier service provider to verify the delivery/receipt of your documents. Inquiries about application status will not be entertained.
  12. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted to take exams and interviews. Candidates must take the exam in person at the Japanese Embassy in Pasay City. The interview may be conducted online or in person at the Embassy of Japan.

Please hand-deliver or mail your application package to the following address on or before the indicated deadline date below. Late applications WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

For documents to be hand-delivered or sent using a same-day courier service, the JICC will receive documents only on weekdays (except holidays) from 8:30am to 12:30pm, and 1:30pm to 4:45pm. All deliveries must be made at the Embassy’s back entrance at Lancaster St., with access via F.B. Harrison St. only. The Embassy reserves the right to decline documents that arrive beyond the stated deadline and timeframe.

For documents to be sent using a later-date courier service (e.g. LBC, JR Express), the JICC will accept documents that were marked as sent on or before May 26, 2023.
