The DOST-NRCP Young Scientists Research Grant 2025, funded by the Department of Science and Technology – NRCP, provides research funding and mentorship opportunities for young scientists and researchers.

The program supports the development of future leaders in Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) by enhancing research productivity and knowledge generation.

About the NRCP Young Scientists Research Grant:

The academic and research landscape is continually evolving, and young scientists play a critical role in advancing knowledge across diverse fields.

To ensure innovation and sustained progress, it is essential to support and encourage the next generation of researchers.

The NRCP Young Scientists Research Grant was established to cultivate promising talents in Science and Technology (S&T) by providing financial support, mentorship, and research opportunities under the guidance of NRCP members. Through this initiative, the program ensures a strong pipeline of capable researchers who will lead future advancements in STI.

The objectives of the program are to:

  1. Foster knowledge creation and innovation by encouraging young researchers to contribute actively to the STI community.
  2. Provide research grants to empower young scientists and researchers, enabling productivity in Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) through thesis, dissertation, or project funding.
  3. Offer mentorship and guidance from NRCP members in conducting and completing scientific activities.

This grant is open to NRCP members with mentee/s who are young Filipino researchers (non-NRCP members) with an approved thesis, dissertation, or research proposal for implementation, or those working on a research project under the supervision of an NRCP member.

Applicants must not be receiving any remuneration (salary or honorarium) under the same research project being applied for under the YSIP Grant.

Qualifications:

The DOST-NRCP Young Scientists Research Grant 2025 has two categories for applicants: Category A (Thesis/Dissertation) and Category B (Research). Each category outlines qualifications for both the Lead Proponent (Mentor) and the Mentee/s (Young Researchers).

Category A – Thesis/Dissertation

Lead Proponent (Mentor):

  • Must be a member of the NRCP by the time of application, i.e., with NRCP Governing Board–approved membership application by way of GB resolution.
  • NRCP member with young scientist/researcher mentee/s.
  • Has academic ties with the mentee/s or target research group/team as a thesis/dissertation adviser.
  • Has no pending technical or financial obligations or ongoing project under the NRCP Grants-in-Aid Program by the time of application.
  • Has a proven track record in the field of study/research being applied for under the YSIP Grant, i.e., with substantial published works in reputable journals and/or previous research undertakings as Adviser to thesis/dissertation students.

Mentee/s:

  • Young Filipino researcher/s not more than 40 years of age by the time of application, and mentored by a member of NRCP as thesis/dissertation advisee.
  • Active in a research undertaking but with no/limited prior funding support from any funding institution.
  • Duly recommended by an NRCP member to be a beneficiary/ies of the grant.

Category B – Research

Lead Proponent (Mentor):

  • Must be a member of the NRCP by the time of application, i.e., with NRCP Governing Board–approved membership application by way of GB resolution.
  • NRCP member with young scientist/researcher mentee/s.
  • Has research ties with the mentee/s or target research group/team as Project/Study Leader or as research supervisor.
  • Has no pending technical or financial obligations or ongoing project under the NRCP Grants-in-Aid Program by the time of application.
  • Has a proven track record in the field of study/research being applied for under the YSIP Grant, i.e., with substantial published works in reputable journals and/or previous research undertakings as Project/Study Leader or research supervisor.

Mentee/s:

  • Young Filipino researcher/s not more than 40 years of age by the time of application, and mentored by a member of NRCP as a research staff/apprentice.
  • Must not be a current recipient of any remuneration (salary or honoraria) under the same project that will be covered by the YSIP Grant application.
  • Active in a research undertaking but with no/limited prior funding support from any funding institution.
  • Duly recommended by an NRCP member to be a beneficiary/ies of the grant.

Benefits:

The DOST-NRCP Young Scientists Research Grant 2025 is a grant-based program provided to qualified applicants who meet the program’s requirements, guidelines, and timeline.

The grant is released one-time to the institution of the NRCP member–mentor on behalf of the mentoring team.

  • Grant Amount: ₱150,000 to ₱500,000 per mentoring team
  • Coverage: The grant covers Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE) only.
  • Not Allowed: The grant does not cover expenses for Personal Services (e.g., salaries and honoraria) and Capital Outlay (e.g., equipment and infrastructure).

Application Deadline and Schedules:

Below are the key application deadlines and Schedules. Be sure to mark these dates to ensure a timely application process.

  • 6 August 2025 – Call for Applications:
    • Release of Call Guidelines to all official platforms of NRCP and DOST
  • 31 August 2025 – Deadline for Submission of YSIP Grant Applications to NRCP:
    • Submission of applications
  • 1–5 September 2025 – YSIP Secretariat Applications Review:
    • Checking of completeness and compliance with YSIP requirements and guidelines
  • 8–19 September 2025 – Evaluation by the YSIP Technical Evaluation Committee (YSIP-TEC):
    • Technical and Financial Merit Review
  • 23 September 2025 – Governing Board Approval:
    • YSIP-TEC endorsed applications for GB approval by way of resolution
  • 25 September – 10 October 2025 – Pre-implementation Activities:
    • MOA Signing with Implementing Agencies and Project Leaders
    • General Orientation of YSIP Grantees
    • Coordination with Project Leaders and Implementing Agencies for MOA review and signing
    • Inception and orientation meetings with approved grantees
  • 20 October – 30 November 2025 – Processing of grants for obligations and disbursements to Implementing Agencies:
    • Cash obligations and disbursements subject to fund availability
  • Nov 2025 / Jan 2026 – December 2026 – Actual implementation of research activities:
    • Maximum of one (1) year duration

Requirements:

Applicants must prepare and submit the following documents depending on the category of application:

Category A – Thesis/Dissertation

For the Mentor (Lead Proponent):

  • Completed YSIP application form with supporting documents, endorsed by the head of the institution
  • Endorsement/certification from the institution (mentor must hold a permanent/plantilla position)
  • List of mentee/s under the grant
  • Proof of role as thesis/dissertation adviser
  • Curriculum Vitae

For the Mentee/s:

  • Signed consent to be engaged as mentee/s under the YSIP Grant
  • Curriculum Vitae

For the Research Proposal:

  • Must align with the National Basic Research Agenda (NIBRA) or the Harmonized National R&D Agenda (HNRDA)
  • Accomplished YSIP Proposal Grant form, Workplan, and Line Item Budget
  • Certified copy of the approved thesis/dissertation proposal signed by both adviser and advisee
  • Must be completed within 6 months to 1 year
  • Budget: ₱150,000 – ₱500,000 (MOOE only) which may cover:
    • Supplies and materials
    • Other professional services (e.g., mentor’s honoraria at ₱3,000/month, report auditing services)
    • Travel expenses for research activities

Category B – Research

For the Mentor (Lead Proponent):

  • Completed YSIP application form with supporting documents, endorsed by the head of the institution
  • Endorsement/certification from the institution (mentor must hold a permanent/plantilla position)
  • List of mentee/s under the grant
  • Proof of role as research supervisor
  • Curriculum Vitae

For the Mentee/s:

  • Signed consent to be engaged as mentee/s under the YSIP Grant
  • Curriculum Vitae

For the Research Proposal:

How to Apply: Step-by-Step

Before you start: Prepare your requirements.

Check the Requirements section of this article and gather all documents needed for your category. At minimum, you’ll need the attachments listed in Step 5.

Step 1: Confirm you’re eligible

Make sure you qualify under Category A (Thesis/Dissertation) or Category B (Research) and that you’re working under an NRCP member-mentor. (Mentees must be 40 years old or below at the time of application.)

Step 2: Assemble your files

Have clean, final versions of all documents ready. Follow the required file formats and naming conventions when attaching.

Step 3: Note the submission window

Submission Period: August 6, 2025 – August 31, 2025 (5:00 PM, PHT)
⚠️ Submissions after the deadline will not be accepted.

Step 4: Send your application via email

  • NRCP members with young researcher mentee/s must submit their application to: 📧 ysip.nrcp@gmail.com

Step 5: Attach all required documents

Required Attachments:

  • Accomplished Application Form
  • Approved Thesis/Dissertation (Category A) or Research Proposal (Category B)
  • Accomplished Line-Item Budget (LIB)

Step 6: Double-check before sending

  • Ensure all attachments are complete and properly signed.
  • Send the email before 5:00 PM, August 31, 2025.

Step 7: Wait for updates

  • Applications will be screened and reviewed by NRCP.
  • Successful applicants will be notified through the contact details provided in the application.
