The Cagayan State University (CSU) began with a visionary idea from Juan Ponce Enrile, who wanted to create a big school that offered a wide range of classes.

In 1978, President Ferdinand E. Marcos made it official with Presidential Decree No. 1436. CSU brought together several smaller schools into one, like the Cagayan Valley College of Arts and Trades and the Northern Luzon State College of Agriculture.

This made CSU campuses in different places like Andrews, Piat, and Aparri.

Even though CSU started with a focus on farming and technology, it quickly expanded to include many other subjects like arts and sciences.

It became known as a “comprehensive university.” Leaders like Dr. Manuel Corpus and Dr. Gilberto Gamez helped set up a medical school, a big deal for the region.

Over the years, CSU grew even more under leaders like Dr. Armando Cortes and Dr. Roger Perez.

They added new classes, upgraded buildings, and made it easier for students to afford school with things like the Zero-Tuition Fee scheme.

Dr. Urdujah Alvarado Tejada, a respected scientist, took over and brought in new ideas like strategic planning and professional training for staff.

With her guidance, CSU is still growing and improving today, focused on making a difference in the lives of students and the community.
