The Engineering Research and Development Technology (ERDT) Program, funded by the Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI), offers scholarships for advanced degrees in engineering.

This program supports Filipino scholars in contributing to national progress through research and innovation.

About the Engineering Research and Development Technology Program (ERDT):

The Engineering Research and Development Technology (ERDT) Program is a graduate scholarship initiative supported by the Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI). Its primary goal is to cultivate a critical mass of research scientists and engineers equipped with master’s and doctoral degrees.

By developing human capital, the ERDT Program plays an important role in advancing the Philippines’ sustainable and inclusive development and industrialization objectives.

ERDT scholars can pursue master’s and doctoral studies in engineering and related fields at any of the eight member universities within the ERDT consortium, as detailed in the List of Partner Schools section.

Qualifications:

Below are the Engineering Research and Development Technology (ERDT) Program requirements for eligibility, along with categories of applicants who may apply or are ineligible.

An applicant must:

  • Be a Filipino citizen.
  • Be no more than 50 years old at the time of application.
  • Have passed the admission requirements of the graduate program supported by the ERDT.
  • Hold a BS or MS degree in engineering or a related field.
  • Be in good health.
  • Have no criminal or administrative cases.
  • Pass the interview and other screening procedures.

Other eligible applicants:

  • PhD graduates in a priority Science & Technology (S&T) program (scholar or non-scholar) who wish to pursue a second PhD.
  • MS/PhD graduates (non-scholars, not S&T related) aiming to pursue a second MS/PhD degree.

Ineligible applicants:

  • PhD graduates (scholar or non-scholar) intending to pursue another MS degree.
  • MS graduates in a priority S&T program (scholar or non-scholar) seeking to pursue a second MS degree.

Notes:

  • The MS stipend rate will be given to grantees of a 4-year PhD program in the first year.
  • The transportation allowance is given only to students who study outside their home province and must be applied for by the scholars, subject to evaluation and approval.
  • The grant approved for transportation is subject to liquidation.
  • The stipends and grants are not applicable to Master of Engineering scholars.

Application Requirements:

Applicants must provide the following documents to apply for the Engineering Research and Development Technology (ERDT) Scholarship Program:

  • Narrative essays outlining research interests and career aspirations.
  • Three recommendation letters from previous professors or supervisors. erdtApp2023.pdf
  • Certified true copy of the official transcript of records.
  • Photocopy of the birth certificate.
  • Current NBI clearance.
  • Medical certificate confirming that the applicant is physically and mentally fit for study, issued by a licensed physician with a PRC license number. erdtApp2023.pdf
  • If currently employed:
    • Recommendation and permission from the agency head to take a leave of absence during the scholarship period, or proof of resignation or termination of employment.
  • Certificate confirming no pending administrative cases.
  • Acceptance letter or notice of admission from the graduate school (to be submitted after acceptance into the program).
  • Approved program of study (to be submitted after acceptance into the program).

Additional Requirements for Lateral Applicants:

  • University certification detailing:
    • Required graduate units for the program.
    • Earned graduate units with corresponding grades.

All completed application forms and supporting documents should be submitted via email to the ERDT Project staff of the chosen ERDT member university before the deadline. Hard copies of the documents must also be mailed. Ensure all documents are scanned before sending.

Terms of the Scholarship:

The scholarship comes with the following conditions:

  • The scholarship award is intended for full-time graduate studies, ensuring the timely completion of an MS or PhD degree.
  • Scholars must not be employed or practicing their profession while receiving the scholarship.
  • Awardees are required to sign a Scholarship Agreement. Their academic performance will be evaluated each school term according to established policies to determine their scholarship status.
  • Scholars are not permitted to hold other scholarships simultaneously.
  • After completing their MS or PhD degree, scholars must fulfill a service obligation in the Philippines, which entails one year of service for each year of scholarship support.
  • Scholars are obligated to refund the scholarship grant with interest if they do not complete their graduate program or fail to meet the service obligation.
