PCAFPD Graduate Scholarship 2024-2025

The PCAFPD Graduate Scholarship is dedicated to supporting Filipino students pursuing advanced degrees.

Funded by former Peace Corps Volunteers, this scholarship is intended to help graduate students excel in their studies and contribute to the development of the Philippines.

About PCAFPD Graduate Scholarship:

The Foundation was created in 1983 by former Peace Corps Volunteers and staff to keep their connection with the Philippines alive through a meaningful cause.

The PCAFPD (Peace Corps Alumni Foundation for Philippine Development.) scholarship program, funded mainly by these volunteers, helps Filipinos continue their education and contribute to the country’s growth.

The Foundation looks for applicants who show leadership potential and are committed to making life better for all Filipinos.

Eligibility Criteria:

To be considered for the PCAFPD Graduate Scholarship, applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements. Applicants must:

• Be Filipino citizens.
• Hold an undergraduate degree.
• Have at least one year of professional work experience.
• Show strong academic achievements, leadership skills, and a history of community service.
• Demonstrate financial need.
• Commit to contributing to the Philippines by working in the country after completing their master’s degree.
• Pass any required qualifying tests for their chosen school or program before the scholarship is granted. It is the applicant’s responsibility to register for and pass these exams.

Additional Notes:

• This scholarship is not for individuals intending to work abroad. Recipients should focus on benefiting their communities within the Philippines.
• Priority is given to applicants proposing fields of study with significant potential to advance Philippine development.
• Preference may also be given to those who exhibit:

• Full coverage of tuition and school fees.
• Funding for books and educational supplies.
• A living allowance per semester, contingent on demonstrating a need for graduate students.
• Reimbursement for approved education-related activities.
• Undergraduates receive a laptop, while graduate students may receive up to PhP 10,000 for thesis support, contingent on submitting a proposal.

Grades:

• Submit your college transcripts showing your cumulative GPA.

Income Certification:

• Provide your most recent Bureau of Internal Revenue Income Tax Return (ITR) if you are employed. If not employed, submit the ITR of the person financially supporting you.

Two Recommendation Letters:

• Letter 1: From a college professor, employer, or senior academic official detailing your academic and professional achievements, leadership potential, and suitability for the scholarship.
• Letter 2: From a barangay captain, religious leader, teacher, Peace Corps Volunteer, or civic leader (not related to you) describing your community service experience and leadership potential.

Proposal for Graduate Studies:

Prepare a clear and well-prepared proposal covering the following sections. Upload a single PDF with each section clearly labeled.

• Background: Describe your activities and volunteer work since graduating from college.
• Financial: Explain your financial situation and need for assistance. Include details about your family’s contribution, living arrangements during graduate school, any work plans, and other support sources.
• Proposed Course of Study: Explain why you chose this program and school, your future employment and volunteer plans, and how the degree will help in contributing to Philippine development.
• Budget: Provide a detailed budget including:
• Number of semesters and courses required.
• Tuition and fees per semester.
• Estimated expenses (thesis, books, supplies, etc.).
• Other financial support sources and relevant information.

For this section, provide the following information:

• Year of Undergraduate Completion: Indicate the year you completed your undergraduate degree.

• College Name: State the name of the college where you earned your undergraduate degree.

• Undergraduate Course: Specify the course of study you pursued for your undergraduate degree.

• Current Enrollment: Select “Yes” if you are currently enrolled in a Master’s Degree program, or “No” if you are not.

• School Type: Choose whether the institution you are enrolled in or plan to attend is “Public” or “Private.”

• Degree Program: Specify the degree you plan to pursue or are currently taking.

• Acceptance Status: Indicate whether you have been accepted into the school where you plan to use the scholarship support by selecting “Yes” or “No.”

• School Details: Provide the full name and complete address of the school you plan to attend with the scholarship. Ensure to use the full name of the institution, not an acronym.

• Expected Graduation Year: State the year you expect to graduate from the program.

Step 4 of 3: Miscellaneous

• How did you learn about the PCAFPD Scholarship?: Select the source from which you learned about the scholarship, such as PCAFPD Alumni, U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer, School, Facebook, Online Search, Friend, Family, or Other.

• College Transcripts: Upload a PDF file of your college transcripts showing your cumulative G.P.A. Maximum file size is 5MB.

• First Recommendation Form: Upload a PDF file of your first recommendation form. Maximum file size is 5MB.

• Second Recommendation Form: Upload a PDF file of your second recommendation form. Maximum file size is 5MB.

• Income Tax Return: Upload a PDF file of your most recent Income Tax Return or Certification for Exemption/Non-filing, if you are working. If you are not working, submit the most recent Income Tax Return of the person financially responsible for you. Maximum file size is 5MB.

• Graduate Studies Proposal: Upload a PDF file of your Graduate Studies Proposal, including all four sections described in the “Required Documents” area. Maximum file size is 5MB.

Step 6: Certification

• Certification of Information: Confirm that the information provided in the application is accurate and reflects the true financial status of your family. Check the box to certify.
• Affirmation of Assistance: Affirm that the scholarship application was completed without the use of artificial intelligence. Check the box to certify.
• Signature: Provide your signature to verify the above certifications.

PCAFPD: Graduate Scholarship

PCAFPD Graduate Terms and Conditons:

To retain your PCAFPD Graduate Scholarship, you must:

• Enroll in a full course load, unless you have been approved for part-time status.
• Complete your degree within the prescribed timeframe. Part-time students should finish a 2-year program within 3 years.
• Submit a transcript of grades at the end of each semester.
• Maintain passing grades throughout your studies.
• Provide a reflective essay at the end of each semester about your experiences.
• Keep in regular contact with the PCAFPD/Manila team.
• Inform the Foundation immediately if you receive additional scholarship funding, as it may impact your current scholarship.
• Obtain prior approval before changing your course of study or transferring to another institution. Failure to do so may result in the termination of your scholarship.
• Engage in PCAFPD scholar networks and participate in related activities such as mentoring programs and scholar meetings.
