About University of Northern Philippines (UNP)
UNP’s journey began with its inception as Vigan Trade School, offering practical skills and secondary trade courses to students.
Through various transformations, including becoming the Northern Luzon School of Arts and Trades (NLSAT) in 1951, the institution expanded its focus on trade-technical education.
In 1965, it transitioned into UNP, signifying its shift towards higher education.
Despite facing challenges such as fires and changes in leadership, UNP continued to grow and diversify its programs.
The acquisition of a new campus in Tamag, Vigan, in 1955 provided the institution with space to accommodate its expanding student population.
Additionally, the opening of the College of Industrial Education and Liberal Arts further solidified UNP’s commitment to providing quality education to its constituents.
Today, UNP stands as a testament to the perseverance and dedication of its founders, fulfilling their vision of creating a thriving educational institution for the people of Ilocos Sur.
